The McCloud was in great form on Opening Weekend. The fishing was marvelous and I think its only going to get better.I was so lucky to spend three great days on the river I love. My clients were a fabulous crew who caught hundreds of fish over the three days at a very relaxed pace. It seems that we were all just happy to be back the the McCloud’s presence. I couldn’t believe how beautiful the river is, how athletic it’s trout are and how healthy the ecosystem is. I love being here.

Success was found by switching up flies all day.  We found they wanted something different at every new run, riffle or pool.  Over a third of the fish were caught on dry flies, as the Salmon flies, Brown Drakes,  PMD’s  were visible in moderate numbers all afternoon.  Best fishing was from 11-4 as the water temp raised 4 degrees.  I am fishing it myself tomorrow!!!!
