Fishing Report.

The State of Jefferson has been fishing really well, not all day long, but in concentrated hatches. Summertime, is all about the half days and we highly recommend our guided half days on the Lower Sac, Upper Sac, McCloud, Rogue River and our Bass lakes. Flows have steadied on the Lower Sac and the fishing went back to excellent, including an evening dry fly bite. The McCloud and Upper Sac have been fishing just fine with some bigger browns showing up on the McCloud. PMD’s are beginning to be the bug of choice but there are still fish looking for that stonefly. We’ve been having some fun and hope to see you out.

Wild Waters Fly Fishing Weekly Report.

Wild Waters Fly Fishing had an amazing week on the McCloud River last week. The fishing has been good to great with some big fish showing up. The days are the longest of the year with over 14 hours of available light. The dry fly has still been the technique of choice but we will be switching up a bit as some bigger fish are showing up. Northern California and Southern Oregon’s rivers and lakes are at their all time best. Our bass lakes are exploding, and make for an amazing half day.  When the wind doesn’t blow. Major bugs to note are the Hexagenia, PMDs, Yellow Sallies and Golden Stones.

McCloud River Fishing Report

The McCloud River continues to deliver good fishing with lots of surface action.  The golden stones are out thick and the fish are on them. I’ve been casting the Orvis Superfine fiberglass rod and its been a treat to catch some hard pulling fish on glass. Slow down and enjoy the river. A few bigger browns found their way to the net last week, giving us a twist of whats to come! Be ready for Golden Stones, Yellow Sallies, PMDs, Green Drakes, Grey Drakes and Hydrophysche Caddis.

Planting Trees on the Shasta River

I spent a half day with a group of volunteers planting trees on The Nature Conservancy’s, Shasta river project at the Nelson Ranch.  The goal is one day, to fish here!  Even with The Nature Conservancy on its side, this river could use some help.  Its the closest Steelhead fishery to our front door and I fish it the least.  Lets get these fish back!!!!!!

12.18.12 One before the storm.

Ryan and John came up for a bit of steelheading before the storm hit. I really enjoy hunting those winter fish. The Klamath has a good number of adults around and worth hitting. Its now snowing hard outside and I’m tying flies for your next steelhead.
