7.30.10. McCloud Days, 8 in a row
Categories: Fishing Report
I’ve been spending many days on the McCloud and for the most part I’ve had it to myself.
I started out with three great clients from the Nature Conservancy at their McCloud River preserve. They were new to fly fishing and still out fished all other fisherman on the river those days. The Nature Conservancy is run by people who I really admire, every time I am lucky enough to spend a day with them on the river, I am always so thankful there are people like them in the world. Thanks guys for all you do for our environment.
Full Moon filled the feeding lane with dinks, but I know what that means. Every year when the full moon of July slows fishing, I ready myself for the big Browns. Five years in a row, I caught them in the same spot, off that rock, you know the one.
Consistent fishing returns to the McCloud. The bigger fish are back in their feeding lanes and eating; including, but not always, the perfect drift with the right fly on the first cast. Fifty fish, well then fifty spots and you will be tired by the end of the day. These guys look like they are ready for it.
