The Williamson

The Williamson River is one of the most unique trout fisheries in the West. This cold spring creek flows into Upper Klamath Lake, where trout spend much of the year growing to incredible size. As lake temperatures rise each summer, these fish are pushed into the cold tributaries to seek refuge, creating one of the best opportunities anywhere to target truly giant wild trout.

The result? Some of the largest trout on the West Coast. Fish over 20 inches are common, and trout well over two feet are caught every season. While many rivers in our region become too warm to fish during the summer, the Williamson is just beginning to hit its stride.

We fish the Williamson exclusively by swinging leeches on intermediate fly lines or targeting rising fish with dry flies. No indicator rigs. No bobbers. Just active, visual fly fishing for some of Oregon’s biggest trout.

Success on the Williamson doesn’t come easily. It is arguably one of the most technical trout rivers in Oregon and Northern California, making it best suited for experienced anglers. Overhead casting 50 feet is mandatory, and patience is rewarded. A great day on the Williamson isn’t measured by numbers—it’s landing one or two truly exceptional fish.
