Since 2001 John has guided the trout and steelhead waters of Northern California and Southern Oregon. Spring finds him on the Lower Sac, Summer on the McCloud, Fall on the Klamath, and Winter on the coast. When he is not on the water he is spending time in his garden or developing film and printing in his darkroom.

2.28.12. Before the storm.

We drove home through torrential rain, howling winds and an ominous blizzard. The rivers are low and in need of this weather but we are glad we had the day before it came. We are not done with the steelhead yet! I am so looking forward to the next month of fishing!!!!

2.26.12 Upper Sacramento

If I’m cold then I know my clients are freezing, but we toughed it out and had a fun day of fishing. David and Patsy are true Wild Waters regulars, clients turned friends.

2.24.12. Warm Weather Winter Steelheading?

Here in Northern California we are in serious need of some snow pack, rain, heck a thick fog would help. I do feel guilty enjoying the warm weather. February has been full of March-browns, little black stones, steelhead and sunscreen. Click for some great photos.

Lynn and Martin’s second day on the Klamath was bluebird weather, bald eagles, steelhead and solitude.

Chuck, Keith and I had a meeting to discuss the future of Wild Waters Fly Fishing. Just your standard business meeting.

I knew that drift was going to stick a fish.  I knew it was going to grab at that exact moment. I knew it was going to happen there and then. I set the hook knowing I was right. It was not knowledge or skill it was a brief moment of enlightenment.

Kim and Selena were determined and gave a good hard effort all day despite the 21 degree morning. We had to scrub every spot for that elusive winter steelhead. Finally, with only two more spots to try, “Set that!” Five fish in a row! Some days she makes you work for it.

It was 17 degrees out there today and we never have had a harder time keeping the line from freezing. A great day of Winter fun!
