August 11 McCloud Fishing Report

McCloud Fishing Report August 11th

We have fully shifted into the dog days of summer. High’s for the day have been hitting 100. The water clarity remains excellent. In fact, the water clarity is such that the fish are a bit spooky. Being mindful of how you approach a spot in order to not spook fish is important right now. After a few frustrating years of turbid water – “too clear” is a welcome contrast. We are entering the best time of year to target the big lake run fish that make their way up the McCloud. Wild Water’s guides are encountering 20 inch plus fish most days on the water. There are some fish over two feet in the system.

Right now it is a nymph and streamer game. The water temperature is rising, and the most productive water will be the most oxygenated. Leave those waders at home and focus on fishing the mornings and evenings.
