Northern California Southern Oregon Fishing Report

Here in the great State of Jefferson, the fishing has been very good. Its June and the dry fly action is at its best. The snow melt has subsided and we are at our summertime low flows. Last week Wild Waters Fly Fishing saw nice hatches of green drakes, pmds, caddis, abundant golden stones and of course the gargantuan salmonfly. After a month into the season, many of the fish have wised up and are only taking the best presentations. I’ve been fishing the Orvis Superfine Glass rod and loving its delicate placement of the fly. Its dry fly time!

•The Lower Sacramento = Very Good. Fishing has remained good despite heat and windy days and a drift is highly recommended.

•The Trinity River = Just Ok.  Flows are still high.

•The Upper Sacramento River =Good. Water is very low and already warming. Fishing is good but tread lightly.

•The McCloud River =Excellent. Some great dry fly fishing and shallow nymphing. We have been seeing plenty of golden stones, yellow sallies, pmds, and a few green drakes and salmonflies.

•The Klamath River =Good. The Salmonfly hatch is in full swing. Drift Boat trip up top is your best option.

• The Pit River = Good. Remains good fishing at higher flows. Pit 3,4&5 producing nice fish in the tough to access areas.

• Hat Creek = Just OK. Some tough days.

• The Fall River = Good, Hex are showing up, wind has made things tough but the hatches are good and the bite on when it subsides.

•The Rogue River =Excellent. Fishing the Holy Water and the Shady Cove stretches has been great. The Salmonflys are out. Sea-run cutthroat and steelhead.

•The Wood River = Just OK. Never seen it so low.

•Bass Ponds and Lakes= Great popper action, with a good chance at a hex hatch at dark.
