The hex came out towards dark but it was all about the poppers before the hatch.

7.9.10 Matt on the McCloud http://wildwatersflyfishing.com/set_that/2010/07/21/7-9-10-matt-on-the-mccloud/ http://wildwatersflyfishing.com/set_that/2010/07/21/7-9-10-matt-on-the-mccloud/#comments Wed, 21 Jul 2010 00:55:20 +0000 Administrator http://wildwatersflyfishing.com/set_that/?p=415 I’ve had the luck and privilege of guiding Matt for 8 years now. We have a blast and catch a ton of fish together. Matt can fish very well, so when he asked me to take him to the McCloud I knew it was going to be a special day. We caught way more fish than we would ever count, but nothing huge. The vast majority of the fish caught were on the dry fly and I made Matt fall in love with this river. He already booked another day later this month. You should get in on this.
Check out how many butterflies are on this Camelback.

7.6.10. Back on the McCloud http://wildwatersflyfishing.com/set_that/2010/07/07/7-6-10-back-on-the-mccloud/ http://wildwatersflyfishing.com/set_that/2010/07/07/7-6-10-back-on-the-mccloud/#comments Wed, 07 Jul 2010 16:49:39 +0000 Administrator http://wildwatersflyfishing.com/set_that/?p=407 She looks pretty good, still a bit off color, but I can see the bottom for the first time in three weeks. How did it fish? It fished fantastic, but nothing over 16 inches today.

Tory went seven fish for seven cast and then took a nap.

Pepper got face to face with a pissed off Rattle Snake and I broke my rod tip while breaking up the fight.

Steeple cast are necessary on the McCloud, especially when I’m standing in your back cast.

I am trying to book July 20&21st. Call me and lets get back to fishing the McCloud.

Small Mouth on Poppers!!!

Here is Mike Emanuel and Pauly Porcini.

Pit Boss Chef Anthony Tassinello, an Italian from Jersey, looking the part.

Pauly Smally Porcini, with his first Smally on a fly.

Always a place http://wildwatersflyfishing.com/set_that/2010/06/28/always/ http://wildwatersflyfishing.com/set_that/2010/06/28/always/#comments Mon, 28 Jun 2010 18:37:57 +0000 Administrator http://wildwatersflyfishing.com/set_that/?p=341 The McCloud River is off color, the Upper Sac is still raging! The Klamath water temps are too high! Time to get resourceful. There are so many places to fish.

Jeff’s first brown may not have been a monster, but will be remembered as one. Jeff started fishing with me two years ago, he is getting good and was ready for some tight, accurate cast. We were deep in the woods, tough cast done right on the first try caught fish the rest did not. Sometimes if you want to catch over 20 fish, you have to fish 20 spots. “Nice try, time to move on”.  During this crazy season of high water don’t sit at home tying flies, get a map, find some water and go fishing.

6.23.10 Last Day on Klamath http://wildwatersflyfishing.com/set_that/2010/06/24/6-23-10-last-day-on-klamath/ http://wildwatersflyfishing.com/set_that/2010/06/24/6-23-10-last-day-on-klamath/#comments Thu, 24 Jun 2010 18:25:45 +0000 Administrator http://wildwatersflyfishing.com/set_that/?p=335 I have decided that this will be my last day on the Klamath until the first Fall rains.  Simply too warm, weedy and tough on the fish.  This beauty was raised out of the water for only a second to snap a photo of a beautiful Summer Steelhead that sucked down a golden stone dry in white water. The reel sang a song to my regular client Jeff who just caught his first steelhead on a dry. The Klamath was very very good to me and I thank it for saving so many June dates.  I hope other guides and outfitters soon follow in giving her a rest for the summer.

Still fishing fantastic but water is warming and weeds are annoying. I got to meet two great guys on a huge 14 mile float from Iron Gate to I-5.  Mike and Bill could fish and we has a spectacular day. They are too sticks who could take advantage of the good fishing. There were periods when we caught fish on every drift for a dozen passes. We had a blast.  You guys can fish in my boat any time.

The river is low and getting too weedy for me. Reviving fish takes time and patience.  Please learn to do this properly as many released fish die in these warm waters.
