With the river conditions right where I like them this time of year, I had to put another day on the river.

Heavy rains brought the floods and the Upper Sac boomed up to almost 18,000 CF/S. We needed some water in this river bad. The Upper Sac clears fast and I was able to take advantage of some high water honey holes.
If I’m cold then I know my clients are freezing, but we toughed it out and had a fun day of fishing. David and Patsy are true Wild Waters regulars, clients turned friends.
Started the day on the Upper Sac catching some big migratory lake fish, had lunch at the great Dunsmuir Brewery, and finished off on the McCloud rainbows. What a damn fine way to spend a day.

I simply love to hunt big fish, target them in their seasonal hang-outs, be at the right place at the right time. One great place to be is on the Lower Stretches of the Upper Sac. The Kamloops (Shasta Lake Rainbows) are thick this year. 16-20″ fish on size 18 beatis. CLICK FOR PICS
For a solid hour we had silly dry fly fishing. The water is high and swift but the fishing is pretty good in the pools. If you know your spots you can do really well right now. And No Mossbrae falls is not one of those spots.
Trout fishing in February? You bet! and matching the beatis hatch paid off on some nice fish.
The common belief is that late summer can be tough on the Upper Sac. Small dries in the foam, micro mays ect…ect… That is unless you know where to go. I have my spots.
