Lower Sac Fishing Report 04.07.12

Lower Sac Fishing Report 04.07.12

Flows are still low and the bite is good.  Stoneflies, PMD’s, and caddis patterns are all catching fish.  A great time to be on the Lower Sac.  Today, David and Patsy introduced their friend Jane to the world of fly fishing.

Andy helped me run some errands down in Redding.  Including new wires for the drift boat trailer lights, new cup holders and new straps and tie downs all around.  Oh right, and a couple of hours of fishing at the Posse grounds.

With the river conditions right where I like them this time of year, I had to put another day on the river.

Heavy rains brought the floods and the Upper Sac boomed up to almost 18,000 CF/S.  We needed some water in this river bad.  The Upper Sac clears fast and I was able to take advantage of some high water honey holes.

3.29.12 No cure for Steelhead fever

Last few weeks I’ve been on the river.  Sick with Steelhead fever.  No matter how many I farmed, caught, or photographed I still couldn’t shake the virus.  Now recent rains have brought the end of the season.  This fish, a highlight, ate a swung fly just after dawn.

Fishing was great!  Most fish ate the dry fly.  Plenty were caught on nymphs.  Flows are still high but this should not stop you from fishing here.  We didn’t see another person fishing all day.  Memorial Weekend?  Yes, I was on the public water.   >>SEE MORE, READ MORE!!!

Klamath River Still High 05/25/11

Klamath River Still High 05/25/11

With the river at almost twice its normal May size (3260 cf/s) and rain on the forecast, things don’t look good for Spring fishing.  Some sunshine would really help turn things around.  Keep your eyes on these postings.  When the Salmon flies do show up, we’ll be the first to know.
