6.4.11 McCloud 27″ Loch Levan brown and 24″ German brown

What a day on my favorite river. John caught two monster browns and had really really good dry fly fishing the rest of the day. You got to click this to see some great photos of Huge McCloud Browns. Two more for the hall of fame. CLICK PHOTO.

  1. Great guides plus great water plus skilled angler equals huge browns. Gotta love a well layed out math problem. Just a hunch but I’m thinking I forgot to factor in the shit load of luck this guide seems to have in almost every way.

  2. Ron Hart, my mentor, thanks buddy. I learned it all from you. My client deserved this day, not because of his skill but because of all the good he does. We had another big brown on early that day. We caught both those fish under an indicator, and only made about twenty cast all day with the nymphs. That day was about the brilliant dry fly fishing.

  3. Still killing me John. Two huge browns in one day, and the day was really about dries. Somebody is living right. Got to get up there soon. BTW, if you are lucky it is because luck is where preparation meets opportunity.

  4. Great Photo’s, Sounds like your a wonderful guide. Im a die hard fly fisherman with the McCloud river being my very favorite river to fish. Ive caught some big rainbows but never any big browns like the ones in the photo. Im not looking to do a guided trip but what I do want to ask is, WHAT DID YOU USE TO CATCH THOSE GIANT BROWNS?? rubber legs? wooly buggers? Just thaught id ask

  5. Hi Patrick
If you look at our McCloud hall of fame page under pigs hogs toads whales you’ll see that between Chuck and I we’ve caught many of those monster browns. Many anglers who love the McCloud and many other guides would love for us to publish how we get them. The truth is they are gifts from the McCloud and there is one for you too. You do need to know where to look. What you use is less important than where. It would be unfair to my clients if I wrote much more. It is worth the fee. Good luck Patrick let us know when you get one.

  6. Is it just me, or do those levans get prettier the bigger they get? Awesome fish in an awesome river. Well done.

  7. Hey Robert. I’m sure you will be catching a few of those leviathans as well. Remember there are not any fish like that in Arizona.
