The team at Wild Waters has been busy. Last week we’ve had some windy days with a substantial temperature drop, but still had some great trips. Most of our days are spent on the Upper and Lower Sacramento and the McCloud River. On the McCloud we have been mainly throwing dry flies. Mid-day yellow sallies and pmd’s are making the bite last throughout the day. Once the big goldens start dropping down from the trees around 5 pm the big rainbows turn to them and throwing the big bug can make for some awesome grabs. The Upper Sac is also fishing well with dry flies. Golden Stones everywhere!! Take a look at some great photos from last week. We so appreciate all the business and look forward to taking you fishing soon.
Here in the great State of Jefferson, the fishing has been very good. Its June and the dry fly action is at its best. The snow melt has subsided and we are at our summertime low flows. Last week Wild Waters Fly Fishing saw nice hatches of green drakes, pmds, caddis, abundant golden stones and of course the gargantuan salmonfly. After a month into the season, many of the fish have wised up and are only taking the best presentations. I’ve been fishing the Orvis Superfine Glass rod and loving its delicate placement of the fly. Its dry fly time!
Tory and I treated ourselves to a day with our good friend and legendary guide Mike Hibbard. So fun to be out on someone else’s boat for a change!
Its fish like this one that keep me dreaming about steelhead fishing.
At Wild Waters Fly Fishing we are passionate about our Steelhead fishing. A day like this is what we live for, we crushed it, and having my dad in the front of the boat made the experience all that much better. When I was young I would steal his fishing vest and fly rod and head to the river. I wonder if he ever thought it would be to his fishing benefit that I did… Deep down, I think so… Thanks Dad.
I had a great time fishing with Chris on these two rivers. Its gonna be an annual. We fished at sunrise, caught some steelhead on dry flies and spey casted ourselves into the ground. Chris is an excellent host, and we fished our asses off. Continue Reading →
Tory and I treated ourselves to a day with the famous Mike Hibbard. I use to guide the Trinity and Mike showed me everything I know, it was so great to be in his boat on a working day. We fished our asses off, with no other boats around!!! What a treat!!! We saw some great steelhead, most of which wooped are butts plus 4 sea run Browns… Check em out!!!!
Gabe Durand, Hutch from Orvis, Zack from Sawyers Oars, Cris King and I testing the new Stream Tech Rafts. I think Wild Waters needs one of these boats.
One of my personal biggest. You can see why the Trinity river is a favorite of many Northern California Steelheaders
